Anyone can be a target for identity theft and scams after a disaster. This video covers how people might try to take advantage of you after a disaster and what you can do to protect your identity and avoid scams. The video also covers steps you can take so that you can recover from a disaster more quickly, as well as what to do if you are the victim of identity theft.
This training is part of the first-ever Disaster Resilience Awareness Month. Throughout the month of March, Disability Rights Texas will team up with its partner Equal Justice Works to spread awareness about disaster-related legal challenges and share resources for disaster preparedness and recovery efforts.
Through education and advocacy, Consumer Action fights for strong consumer rights and policies that promote fairness and financial prosperity for underrepresented consumers nationwide. Disasters and emergencies create an environment where consumers are susceptible to being taken advantage of.
